WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two years of reckless spending from Joe Biden and the Democrats caused the national debt to balloon and sent inflation soaring.
The American people overwhelmingly disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy. Alternatively, they support Congress acting responsibly to raise the debt ceiling and rein-in spending. New AP-NORC polling reveals 63% of Americans believe Congress should raise the debt ceiling only if they also reduce the federal budget deficit. A separate Harvard-Harris Poll shows that 60% of Americans believe Congress should only raise the debt ceiling if it’s coupled “with restraints on future spending.”
While Joe Biden refuses to reduce spending, Republicans have acted.
Republicans put forward a serious solution to raise the debt ceiling, rein-in spending, reduce waste, and lower costs without raising taxes on anyone. This starts with clawing back unspent COVID money and tying welfare to work. Earlier this month, 43 Senate Republicans signed a letter to Senator Schumer vowing to stand with the American people by opposing “any bill that raises the debt ceiling without substantive spending and budget reforms.”
With only 10 days to go, Joe Biden needs to get serious. Stop “pandering to the liberal left” and start working with Republicans on a responsible solution to raise the debt ceiling and reduce spending.
